The Indian Consulate celebrated the 134th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and a graduate of Columbia University. New York City declared his anniversary April 14, as Ambedkar Day.
The chief guest for the Consulate event was India’s Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Dr. Ramdas Athawale, who paid floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar and reflected on his transformative years at Columbia, which shaped his academic brilliance and laid the foundation for his lifelong fight for equality and justice, a post on X from the Consulate quoted him saying.

“Dr. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution was a visionary who championed the rights of the marginalized and tirelessly advocated for education, human rights, and social reform,” the Indian Consulate said in its post. “His legacy transcends borders, with his thoughts continuing to inspire global movements for justice and equity.”
