Schaumburg, IL – August 16, 2025 – Despite torrential rain and high winds, thousands of Indian Americans attended INDIA FEST 2025, hosted by National India Hub (INDIA HUB). According to organizers, more than 3,000 participants and over 70 community organizations gathered for one of the largest Indian Independence Day celebrations in the United States.
The biggest attraction was India’s World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh, who joined elected officials, dignitaries, and community leaders for the occasion. Singh expressed how he was deeply moved by the sight of thousands waving the Tricolor, chanting patriotic slogans, and dancing joyfully in the rain.“What I witnessed here today is nothing short of extraordinary — the true spirit of India, celebrated with courage, love, and unity, even in the toughest weather,” Singh remarked.
Though weather disruptions prevented Singh from personally greeting every parade group, he expressed sincere admiration for the passionate display of unity.
The festival’s success was made possible by the hard work of more than 200 volunteers, who ensured smooth operations.
In addition to the patriotic parade, INDIA FEST offered service-oriented initiatives and competitions that underscored the organization’s mission of community empowerment. Highlights included:Health Fair, Eye Camp, and Blood Drive and Carrom, Chess, Table Tennis, Singing, and Dance competitions with 500+ participants
“INDIA FEST was not only about celebration — it was about service, unity, and showcasing what we can achieve when we come together,” said Harish Kolasani, Founder of National India Hub. “Our volunteers and community members have proven that INDIA HUB is not just a place, it is a movement, a voice, and a second home for thousands.”
Key coordinators included Sireesha Tipparaju, supported by co-coordinators Smita Shah, Surender Patel, and Usha Bhaskar.
The festival also marked a historic policy milestone with the announcement of a new bill on “Dignified Cremation”, introduced by State Senator Laura Ellman and co-sponsored by Senator Ram Villivalam, alongside support from State Representative Janet and other state lawmakers. The announcement, read by Saily Joshi, was shared in the presence of Yuvraj Singh and Harish Kolasani.
This initiative recognizes and safeguards sacred religious practices such as Asthi Visarjan (immersion of ashes in holy rivers), ensuring that diverse communities can uphold their traditions with dignity.“This announcement is proof of what community vision and unity can accomplish. We are proud that INDIA HUB initiated PROJECT MOKSH to replicate this bill across the United States, under the leadership of Saily Joshi. This will serve generations to come across the nation,” said Kolasani.
To carry forward the momentum, INDIA HUB will host a “Success Meet” with community leaders and volunteers to reflect on INDIA FEST 2025, share lessons, and plan future events. Preparations are already underway for INDIA FEST 2026, scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, which is expected to draw even larger participation.
National India Hub (INDIA HUB) is one of the largest Indian community centers and a 100% volunteer-led nonprofit. It is home to more than 80 service organizations. It aims to unite communities, celebrate culture, and provide essential services ranging from free healthcare and mental health programs to youth development, job fairs, and cultural celebrations.
