More than 150 people availed of the Health Fair organized by Indian Health Camp of New Jersey, IHCNJ, Sunday, July 10, 2022, at the Balaji Temple in Bridgewater, N.j. This was the 22nd year of the health camp at the temple.
The health screening and disease awareness and prevention fair was attended by more than 150 uninsured or underinsured individuals, a press release from IHCNJ said. The health fair was open to all pre-registered participants above the age of 40 without any medical insurance.The IHCNJ, a non-profit, holds health fairs throughout the year for the past 24 years to benefit needy people in the South Asian communities.
The health screenings included blood test, EKG,vision screening, physical examination, cardiology, urology, female exams, dietary and nutrition counseling, alternative therapy, podiatry, physical therapy, mental health screening and evaluation and various types of cancer screening and prevention education, chronic disease self-management via ask your doctor, diabetes and stroke education and many other ancillary services to more than 150 pre-registered qualified participants.
The physicians and other specialists, mental health providers and other allied health care professionals from various specialties as well as other healthcare professionals and volunteers helped at the fair.
The blood test reports were reviewed by the physicians and mailed to all participants with a counseling note for any abnormal tests. The blood test services were provided by LabCorp. Lions District 16-N provided eye screening to more than 100 qualified participants.
Ritesh Shah of Legacy Pharmacy and Ritesh Shah Charitable Pharmacy provided resources for the chronic care medications like diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and mental health to qualified participants.
Committee members, students and other volunteers of IHCNJ gave of their time as did volunteers from Balaji Temple which provided management and other support including breakfast and lunch for all, “which made the health fair a huge success,” organizers said in the press release.
The IHCNJ will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2023, and is planning a Gala to fundraise for more activities, organizers said.
The next health fair for Indian Health Camp of NJ will be organized on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Durga Temple in South Brunswick, NJ. The online registration form to participate in this health fair will be available in upcoming weeks on IHCNJ’s website at IHCNJ.org . The completed online registration form needs to be completed on or before the deadline of September 10, 2022.
