A new interactive museum on Mahatma Gandhi is set to open soon in Atlantic City, New Jersey, that will mirror the Peace Center in Delhi.
To herald that opening, a ceremony was held Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022, for special guests to pay homage to Gandhiji celebrating his 153 birth anniversary which fell on Oct. 2.
The Eternal Gandhi Peace Center and Museum is a collaboration between the Gandhian Society (GandhianSociety.org) and Ideal Institute of Technology (IITNJ.org) with a half million-dollar donation from The Aditya Birla Group.
The Guests of Honor included Consul General of India in New York Randhir Jaiswal; President, Aditya Birla Group Nitin Mathuria; and Kenny Desai, president of the Federation of Indian Associations.
Local leaders such as Assemblywoman Claire Swift, Assemblyman Don Gaudian, VP of Atlantic City Council Kaleem Shabazz, Atlantic County Sheriff Erik Scheffler, and Atlantic City Police Department Acting Chief James Sarkos, were also among the attendees.
The museum’s digital experience showcases the lives and legacies of M.K. Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. and features multiple exhibits including a timeline browser and examples of Gandhi’s writing and speeches.
The Eternal Gandhi Peace Center and Museum, located at The Walk in Atlantic City, will operate under the leadership of Museum Director and Founder of Atlantic County’s Ideal Institute of Technology, Ren Parikh. It will be managed by youth enrolled at Ideal as a first step in that institution’s career training program.
The official opening date to the public is November 1.
