New York City’s small businesses can now apply for a new grant “2022 Single Neighborhood Open Streets Grant” of $50,000 to help deal with economic hardship faced during and after the pandemic.
Who is giving the grant: The new grant is from NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) under Mayor Eric Adam’s “Blueprint for Economic Recovery Initiative to Fortify Commercial Corridors Impacted by the Pandemic”.
Who can apply : The up to $50,000 grant can be applied for by Community Based Development Organizations (CBDOs), Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), local development corporations, and merchant associations operating within the five boroughs of New York City. Those applying must be
1) approved by the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) as an Open Street partner
2) managing an Open Street on a commercial corridor
3) nonprofit organizations incorporated in New York State
4) organizations compliant with annual State and Federal filing requirements
What can the grant money be used for: The grant amount can be used for street management, cleanliness and beautification, district marketing, and programming to engage New Yorkers in their public spaces and attract shoppers.
Where to apply: Organizations that wish to apply should visit Open Streets Grant – SBS (nyc.gov). The application deadline is June 20.
What is Open Streets Program: NYC’s Open Streets program converts community neighborhoods as new public space allowing small businesses. The program allows to various activities supporting local businesses. It also prioritizes pedestrians and cyclists. CBDOs can apply with the DOT to become an Open Street Partner.
What does SBS do: SBS serves small businesses and tries to create economic security for New Yorkers by connecting them to good jobs, creating stronger businesses, and building vibrant neighborhoods in the five boroughs. More information is available at nyc.gov/sbs or at (888) SBS-4NYC.
