Indian American Meera Joshi is quitting Mayor Eric Adams’ administration: News reports

Indian American Meera Joshi, New York City’s Deputy Mayor of Operations, is among several top administration officials in City Hall, are expected to resign in the near future, as a protest against Mayor Eric Adams’ handling of immigrants.

According to a Politico report Feb. 17, 2025, (as well as NY Post) several deputy mayors indicated they plan to resign. Apart from Joshi, they include First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer, Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Anne Williams Isom, and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Chauncey Parker.

They are just the latest of a string of resignations in the City various offices, including that of the federal prosecutor’s office.

According to Politico, “The deputy mayors voiced worry that Adams is essentially doing the bidding of President Donald Trump …”

Recently, the US Department of Justice issued an order that corruption charges against Adams be dropped “… in a case that appeared to be tied to the mayor’s cooperation on deporting migrants from New York City,” Politico said.

Joshi was appointed Deputy Mayor in January 2022, prior to which she was the Deputy Administrator Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration at the US Department of Transportation.

She served as the Principal and New York General Manager at Sam Shwartz from Feb. 2020 to January 2021.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Joshi earned her law degree from UPenn’s Carey Law School in 1915.
