Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, on Saturday, Feb. 22, joined leaders from across Chicagoland to celebrate Black History Month at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s Saturday forum.
In his remarks, Krishnamoorthi highlighted the importance of ensuring everyone in this country has the opportunity to succeed and protecting the social safety net programs that our families — including the Congressman’s when he was growing up — depend on.
“If there was no Jim Crow, we would not need DEI. If there was no slavery, we would not need DEI. If we did not have discrimination of any kind whatsoever, if we lived as God would want us to live, we would not need DEI,” Krishnamoorthi said.
“DEI is not about lowering standards — it is about raising the bar. It is about including everyone, everyone, in the pool of applicants for jobs, in the pool of applicants for a promotion, in the pool of applicants for every public contract so that we get a meritocracy. That is what this is about.”
