Prime Minister Modi was greeted by a large crowd upon arrival in New York’s JFK Airport June 20, 2023, on eve of State Visit to US.
“Landed in New York City. Looking forward to the programmes here including interaction with thought leaders and the Yoga Day programme tomorrow, 21st June,” Modi tweeted with some photos of his arrival.
“What a grand Yoga Day programme in New York! Grateful for the energy and commitment shown by all participants. This shows how Yoga unites us in the pursuit of health, peace, and harmony,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted along with photos from the event.
In his speech, he said, “Yoga is free from copyrights, free from patents and free from royalty payments.” He went on to note, “Yoga comes from India and it has a very old tradition, but like all ancient Indian traditions, it is also living, dynamic.”
He went on to say, “Yoga is a way of life, a holistic approach to health and well being, a way to mindfulness in thought and action,” and a way to live in harmony with the environment.
Some members of the Indian community in New York, rallied to greet Prime Minister Narendra when he came to observe International Day of Yoga at the UN June 21, 2023.
While in New York June 20-21, 2023, his first stop during his State Visit to Washington, D.C., Prime Minister Narendra Modi met a host of business leaders, academics, and science and technology leaders.
He also paid homage to UN Peacekeepers at a monument dedicated to them. India is among the largest contributors to Peacekeeping forces.
“Humbled to pay my tributes at the Wall of Peace at the@UN HQ today. We honor and remember the brave peacekeepers who gave their lives for a more peaceful world. Their selfless service will never be forgotten,” Modi tweeted.
“Great meeting you today@elonmusk,! We had multifaceted conversations on issues ranging from energy to spirituality,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi after meeting the technology leader Elon Musk. “It was an honor to meet again,” replied Musk on Twitter.
